We select high quality leathers for both their appearance and durability. Our leathers will age beautifully over time and will require minimal maintenance.

Any tonal changes or textural variances and incidental marks should not be considered as imperfections, but characteristics of the natural tanning process.

A few things:

  • Avoid getting leather excessively wet.
  • Avoid contact with oily substances, cosmetics, and solvents.
  • Never dry leather near a heat source.
  • Care should be taken when wearing light-coloured garments, to avoid colour transfer.

Cleaning & Conditioning

From time to time, you may wish to clean your leather product.  Brush it down with a soft brush to remove any dust and debris. Next, wipe with a damp cloth and allow to dry for a few hours at room temperature.

Once item has dried out, we recommend an application of J&E Sedgwick Original Leather Care, an all-natural leather dressing containing oil, tallow and beeswax.  Simply work the leather dressing into the your item with either a soft cloth, or gently with your fingers.  Allow the dressing to penetrate the leather for three to four hours, and then simply polish off with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth.

Special Notes

It should be noted that, with any of our products made with J&E Sedgwick bridle leather, after a time, natural oils and waxes can sometimes migrate to the surface of the leather, giving it a white appearance, commonly known as “bloom.”  This is quite normal and a sign of high quality bridle leather.  Bloom can be buffed away easily with a soft cloth or brush.
